La Perle By Dragone Franco Dragone, the mastermind behind shows like The House of Dancing Water in Macau and Le Reve in Las Vegas, has created Dubai’s first resident show – La Perle. The show, which is expected to run for the next ten years, with ten shows a week, takes place in a purpose-built theatre in the heart of Al Habtoor City. The theatre uses state-of-the-art technology, and houses an aqua-stage and a 12-metre deep pool filled with 2.7 million litres of water. You can expect to see 65 world-class performers, from 23 countries, performing breath-taking and extraordinary stunts, ranging from acrobatics and contortion to flying and diving. With a story that’s inspired by the spirit of Dubai, La Perle is a one-of-a-kind live show, designed to appeal to everyone, and capture the imagination of children and adults alike. Please note that La Perle will be off during the Holy Month of Ramadan from 13 May and will resume shows on 13 June.

‘Inner And Outer Space’ by Kenny Scharf The latest exhibition to go on display at Leila Heller Gallery is ‘Inner and Outer Space’ by Kenny Scharf, and is the American artist’s first solo show here in the UAE. The painter and sculptor is best known for his large, colourful paintings of animals and imaginary creatures, as well as sculptures of televisions and found objects. His latest series of works reflect his concerns about the environment, and in particular the petroleum industry. Two of the paintings, We’re Melting Together Night and Day, and Melty Slop, show a series of brightly-coloured cartoon faces melting down to the bottom of the canvas, and have been made using oil, acrylic, and diamond dust.

‘Cultural Crossroads’ by Tahar Ben Jolloun ‘Cultural Crossroads’, which is on display at La Galerie Nationale, is a collection of works on canvas by the Moroccan writer Tahar Ben Jelloun. The poet, novelist and artist is best known for his novel The Sacred Night, which won the Prix Goncourt in 1987. He first started painting in 2013, and since then he’s had his work exhibited in galleries in Rome, Paris, and Algiers. The show came about because of the friendship between Ben Jelloun and Guillaume Cuiry, the gallery’s director and curator. It will debut during this year’s Dubai Art Week, and also marks the gallery’s partnership with the Institut de Monde Arabe, as 2018 is the official year of UAE-Franco Relations.

Philip Taaffe Solo Show at Leila Heller Gallery Leila Heller Gallery will be presenting a new exhibition by Philip Taaffe from 19 March until 31 August, in what will be the artist’s first solo show in the Middle East. The paintings are inspired by a variety of sources – everything from Roman mosaics and Syrian embroidery to calligraphy and Mongolian masks.
