The World of the Hunger Games The World of the Hunger Games is the latest attraction to open up at Motiongate Dubai, in the Lionsgate Zone. It’s the world’s first theme park zone inspired by the Hunger Games trilogy written by Suzanne Collins, and the film franchise starring Jennifer Lawrence. There are two new rides in the Hunger Games area. The Capitol Bullet Train is a 1,870-foot-long rollercoaster, which reaches speeds of up to 50mph. The Panem Aerial Tour, meanwhile, is more sedate – it’s a flight simulator ride that takes guests on a tour of the world of Panem. Screens in both of the rides show messages from some of the films’ characters, including Caesar Flickerman (played by Stanley Tucci) and Effie Trinket (played by Elizabeth Banks), filmed especially for the park. In addition to rides, visitors to the World of the Hunger Games will be able to enjoy Coal Miners’ Clash, a live show in the streets of the park, which sees the miners of District 12 coming together for a creative high-energy musical show. Where the global aviation world comes to do business The Dubai Airshow is one of the largest and most successful air shows in the world, connecting aerospace professionals across all areas of the industry to facilitate successful global trade. The 2017 event saw a 20% increase in trade visitors on 2015 with some 79,380 attending the exhibition and an order book of US $113.8 billion. The biennial event takes place at Dubai World Central, Dubai’s airport of the future. When completed, it will be the world’s largest airport with an ultimate capacity of more than 160 million passengers and 12 million tonnes of cargo per annum. China Homelife Dubai The exhibition of Chinese businesses returns for its ninth edition China Homelife is the largest trade fair for Chinese businesses, and it’s set to return to Dubai this December. The event is held annually in cities around the world, including Johannesburg, Mexico, and Warsaw, and the Dubai event attracts visitors from across the Middle East.  This year’s event will focus on nine separate product segments: agriculture and food; building materials; consumer electronics; furniture; home appliances; textiles and garments; home products; gifts; and lights and lamps. Visitors can expect to find more than 50,000 of the latest products and innovations from more than 2500 suppliers. The event is an ideal opportunity for importers, traders and buyers to meet with manufacturers and source products directly from them.

Al Marmoom Ultramarathon Elite ultra runners from around the world have Dubai marked in their diaries from 11-15 December with the Al Marmoom Ultramarathon offering three gruelling distances to choose from: the world’s longest desert run at 270km, plus continuous 100km and 50km ultra runs. Competing for a total prize purse of US$60,000, this super challenging self-sufficient event covers five stages and includes tents and water, and breathtaking scenery courtesy of the Al Marmoom Desert Conservation Reserve.

Paper Arabia One of the biggest events for the Middle East’s paper industry Paper Arabia, one of the biggest events for the Middle East’s paper industry, returns this December, for its fifth edition. The three-day event is an international trade fair, and is a chance for professionals to meet with people from all sectors of the industry, including manufacturers, dealers, wholesalers, exporters, and more. All aspects of the industry will be represented, from writing paper and newsprint to paper mill technology and paper cutting machines. There’ll be opportunities for visitors to view the latest products or showcase their own products, as well as network and make deals.

2019 Ironman 70.3 Dubai Calling all long-distance athletes. Mark a date in your diary for Dubai’s next annual Ironman event as the city prepares to host a Half Ironman in February 2019 with participants braving the Gulf waters, Arabian dunes and city streets. Following on from the success of the 2018 event, Ironman 70.3 Dubai will once again criss-cross the city, with athletes kicking off this gruelling back-to-back event close to Umm Suqeim Park. Hitting the water first, with a 1.9km swim in the shadow of Burj Al Arab, followed by a 90km bike ride and finishing off with a 21.1km run deep into the desert dunes,  catch all the excitement from the sidelines or sign up to participate and even qualify for the Ironman World Championship. Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships 2019 The annual Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships will return in 2019, with world-class players expected to wow crowds at this unmissable sporting event. Past highlights have included the legendary Roger Federer winning three times in a row between 2003-2005. Other tennis greats such as Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic, and the oft-considered greatest of all time, Venus Williams, have also won here. Emirates Airline Dubai Jazz Festival 2019 .The Emirates Airline Dubai Jazz Festival is set to return in February 2019, for its 17th edition. In 2019, the festival will take place over 10 days, with performances from local and international jazz and blues artists at venues throughout the city, before the main event takes place over three days at Dubai Media City Amphitheatre. The 2018 edition saw three international acts headlining the festival – Duran Duran, John Legend, and Ricky Martin. Past years have seen megastars like Tom Jones, Kool & The Gang, and Mariah Carey take to the stage, but the 2019 line-up is yet to be announced. Watch this space for more details.
