On 7 November, Dubai Miracle Garden opens its doors for its sixth season. As the world’s largest natural flower garden, it’s home to more than 100 million blooming flowers. Last year it broke several world records when it unveiled a full-size replica of an Emirates A380 plane. The park was closed in the summer months, but has been renovated for the new season. The park is full of one-of-a-kind floral displays and attractions including a floral clock, peacocks, an aromatic garden, and the Dubai Butterfly Garden, the world’s largest butterfly garden and sanctuary. Over the winter months, the garden is set to attract thousands of visitors.
Get the whole family together and head to this new open-air market in Dubai Marina, taking place every Friday evening. Browse the stalls and find everything from jewellery and clothes to flowers and home décor, as well as homemade items. There’s also entertainment for the kids, so you keep them happy while you shop, with clowns, mascots and henna. If you work up an appetite while you’re shopping, you can also find stalls selling popcorn and candy floss, along with other snacks.
Dubai Garden Glow is back for a third season. The park is one of the world’s largest theme parks, and with three unique areas, it has something for the whole family to enjoy. The glow garden sparkles in the dark, and is made of over 10 million energy-saving light bulbs and yards of recycled luminous fabric. There’s also Dinosaur Park, which is home to more than 100 realistic animatronic dinosaurs. New for 2017 is the park’s new area, Ice Park, which has been made from 5,000 tons of ice. There are also musical shows and live performances throughout Dubai Garden Glow, as well as an edutainment zone for the kids and a pavilion with food from around the world.
Following on from XDubai’s last zipline, which stretched over the Dubai Fountains, the extreme sports company has set up another zipline, this time in Dubai Marina. The XLine Dubai Marina takes thrill seekers all the way from the Amwaj Towers in JBR to Dubai Marina Mall. Twice the length of the last zipline, at 1km, it’s been described as the world’s longest urban zip line, and reaches speeds of up to 80km/hr. There are two ziplines next to each other, so if you don’t fancy flying solo, you can convince a friend or family member to take on the zipline at the same time as you. All the action will be caught on camera, so you’ll be free to take home videos and photos of your mid-air adventure.

‘Nose Art’, which is the latest exhibition to go on show at Alserkal Avenue’s MB&F M.A.D. Gallery, features the work of French photographer Manolo Chretien. Chretien grew up living near the Orange Air Force Base in France, and is the son of Jean-Loup Chretien, the first French astronaut. Not surprisingly, he’s always had a passion for aviation. For this exhibition, Chretien has captured famous aircraft head-on, providing a unique look, and each photograph is in a cut-out format that highlights the fuselage. There are eight photographs in the exhibition, and each one has a story to tell, whether it’s through rust or dents covering each plane’s surface.
Le Patio is a contemporary Arabic restaurant, hidden away in a Parisian-inspired courtyard setting at the St Regis Dubai hotel – and from 12 March until 12 May, visitors will be able to see an exhibition of new artworks by Alexey Firsov. This is the first time the artist’s works have been on display in Dubai, and it’s the sixth instalment of the hotel’s ‘Perspective: Art Exhibition’ series, held in collaboration with Sulty Events. Firsov is the pioneer of his own artistic style, Lavism, which uses explosive brush strokes and bold colours, and is inspired by ancient Russian art.
Leila Heller Gallery will be presenting a new exhibition by Philip Taaffe from 19 March until 31 August, in what will be the artist’s first solo show in the Middle East. Taaffe is one of the most eminent artists of his generation, and the exhibition will feature some of his most recent paintings. The paintings are inspired by a variety of sources – everything from Roman mosaics and Syrian embroidery to calligraphy and Mongolian masks. Known for his fusion of techniques, including collage, silkscreen printing, and marbling, Taaffe has mixed the decorative with the narrative, as well as the ancient with the modern, creating a series of striking artworks.

The World of the Hunger Games is the latest attraction to open up at Motiongate Dubai, in the Lionsgate Zone. It’s the world’s first theme park zone inspired by the Hunger Games trilogy written by Suzanne Collins, and the film franchise starring Jennifer Lawrence. There are two new rides in the Hunger Games area. The Capitol Bullet Train is a 1,870-foot-long rollercoaster, which reaches speeds of up to 50mph. The Panem Aerial Tour, meanwhile, is more sedate – it’s a flight simulator ride that takes guests on a tour of the world of Panem. Screens in both of the rides show messages from some of the films’ characters, including Caesar Flickerman (played by Stanley Tucci) and Effie Trinket (played by Elizabeth Banks), filmed especially for the park. In addition to rides, visitors to the World of the Hunger Games will be able to enjoy Coal Miners’ Clash, a live show in the streets of the park, which sees the miners of District 12 coming together for a creative high-energy musical show. Visitors will also be able to browse shops and restaurants in the area – the Panem Supply Co. sells Hunger Games merchandise, and guests will be able to buy snacks […]
