‘Cultural Crossroads’ by Tahar Ben Jolloun ‘Cultural Crossroads’, which is on display at La Galerie Nationale, is a collection of works on canvas by the Moroccan writer Tahar Ben Jelloun. The poet, novelist and artist is best known for his novel The Sacred Night, which won the Prix Goncourt in 1987. He first started painting in 2013, and since then he’s had his work exhibited in galleries in Rome, Paris, and Algiers. The show came about because of the friendship between Ben Jelloun and Guillaume Cuiry, the gallery’s director and curator. It will debut during this year’s Dubai Art Week, and also marks the gallery’s partnership with the Institut de Monde Arabe, as 2018 is the official year of UAE-Franco Relations.
XPark Jr is the latest venture from XDubai, and is aimed solely at families and their little ones. It’s opened up close to the Kite Beach Skatepark, and is full of trees, gardens, streams, tree houses, bridges, and climbing frames for families to enjoy. It’s also home to a petting zoo, a sand play area, and a mud kitchen. The park aims to encourage children to take risks and be more confident as they explore and learn more about nature. Modhesh World 2018 The 19th edition of Modhesh World, one of the region’s largest indoor entertainment and amusement facilities, returns to Dubai World Trade Centre with tons of summer-long family fun from 7 June to 25 August 2018. This year the My Modhesh, My World theme takes over eight air-conditioned halls packed with interactive experiences across different zones: Show Land, Amusement Park, Jam Base, and Modhesh Bazaar. Head to the Amusement Park for a fairground theme with traditional rides, arcade games, kiddie rides, trampolines, bungees and water games. Little ones will have endless options to keep them active all summer-long with go-karting, inflatables and a wire world on offer as well as hi-tech edutainment at Jam Base. The four-day conference is organised by the International Association of Medical Regulatory Authorities, in association with the Dubai Health Regulation Conference. The Mining Show The Middle East’s largest mining conference and expo The Mining Show returns to Dubai this October for its eleventh edition. The event is the largest mining conference and expo in the Middle East, Africa, Central Asia, and South Asia, and brings together professionals and companies throughout the mining industry. The event has partnered with the UAE’s Ministry of Energy, and is looking to examine the challenges facing the extraction and production of construction materials in the region. DP World Tour Championship 2018 The DP World Tour Championship, one of the biggest events in Dubai’s sporting calendar, is back for its tenth edition from the 15-18 November. Part of the European Tour, and the thrilling climax to the European Tour Race to Dubai, this golfing tournament has seen some of the world’s best golfers competing here in the UAE, with past winners including Rory McIlroy and Jon Rahm. The region’s leading education show The Gulf Education and Training Exhibition, or GETEX, returns from 14-16 November. The event is a chance for schools, colleges and educational institutes to reach out to Dubai’s aspiring students, and for students to learn about what educational opportunities are available. Each year, the exhibition attracts more than 35,000 students, and GETEX focuses on all aspects of education, from residential schools to student counselling. The three-day event also features a Counsellors Forum, for Counsellors to meet and learn from fellow professionals. There will also be a line-up of seminars led by representatives from local and international schools, covering everything from children’s healthcare to Master’s Degree programs.
