‘Cultural Crossroads’ by Tahar Ben Jolloun ‘Cultural Crossroads’, which is on display at La Galerie Nationale, is a collection of works on canvas by the Moroccan writer Tahar Ben Jelloun. The poet, novelist and artist is best known for his novel The Sacred Night, which won the Prix Goncourt in 1987. He first started painting in 2013, and since then he’s had his work exhibited in galleries in Rome, Paris, and Algiers. The show came about because of the friendship between Ben Jelloun and Guillaume Cuiry, the gallery’s director and curator. It will debut during this year’s Dubai Art Week, and also marks the gallery’s partnership with the Institut de Monde Arabe, as 2018 is the official year of UAE-Franco Relations.

NAS Night Challenge NAS Night Challenge, which is set to take place 1-2 June, is part of this year’s NAS Sports Tournament. The event is a community-based obstacle course, and you can take part either on your own or as part of a team. The course will be spread out across a plot of land next to the NAS Sports Complex, and is expected to attract over 2000 athletes and visitors over the three days. There will be an ‘individuals’ night on 1 June, and a ‘team’ night on 2 June.

‘Madayen’ Screening at Cinema Akil ‘Madayen’ tells the story of three young Saudis who set out to the notoriously haunted Madayen Saleh ruins in the far north of Saudi Arabia, to investigate the myths and truths around this mysterious area. Written and produced by Hakeem Jomah and directed by Ayman Tamano, this documentary film was released in 2016 and was filmed in the style of ‘found’ footage.
