‘Space and Place’ by Jene Highstein
‘Space and Place’, by the American artist Jene Highstein, is the latest exhibition to go on show at Alserkal Avenue’s Jean-Paul Najar Foundation. The exhibition includes a mix of sculptures and drawings by the late artist. The sculptures are made of bronze, concrete, steel and wood, which he used to create both primal and organic artworks. Their solidity is a stark contrast to some of his more delicate ink drawings. Using intense black pigment and Chinese ink on paper, the drawings serve to show his ideas and thought processes before he set out to create his sculptures.
