The World of the Hunger Games is the latest attraction to open up at Motiongate Dubai, in the Lionsgate Zone. It’s the world’s first theme park zone inspired by the Hunger Games trilogy written by Suzanne Collins, and the film franchise starring Jennifer Lawrence. There are two new rides in the Hunger Games area. The Capitol Bullet Train is a 1,870-foot-long rollercoaster, which reaches speeds of up to 50mph. The Panem Aerial Tour, meanwhile, is more sedate – it’s a flight simulator ride that takes guests on a tour of the world of Panem. Screens in both of the rides show messages from some of the films’ characters, including Caesar Flickerman (played by Stanley Tucci) and Effie Trinket (played by Elizabeth Banks), filmed especially for the park. In addition to rides, visitors to the World of the Hunger Games will be able to enjoy Coal Miners’ Clash, a live show in the streets of the park, which sees the miners of District 12 coming together for a creative high-energy musical show. This new show at Children’s City, the educational theme park in the heart of Creek Park, aims to both entertain and educate the youth of the UAE. A daily show, which takes place in Children’s City’s state-of-the-art planetarium, takes audiences on an exciting journey through the human body, where they’ll also learn about friendship along the way. Children must be at least two years old to watch the show.

Where the global aviation world comes to do business The Dubai Airshow is one of the largest and most successful air shows in the world, connecting aerospace professionals across all areas of the industry to facilitate successful global trade. The 2017 event saw a 20% increase in trade visitors on 2015 with some 79,380 attending the exhibition and an order book of US $113.8 billion. The biennial event takes place at Dubai World Central, Dubai’s airport of the future. When completed, it will be the world’s largest airport with an ultimate capacity of more than 160 million passengers and 12 million tonnes of cargo per annum. International Coffee and Tea Festival The Middle East’s largest coffee and tea event The only event of its kind in the region, the International Coffee and Tea Festival returns to Dubai from 5-7 December. The event is set to showcase all aspects of the coffee and tea industry, including products, services, and equipment. Visitors will be able to sample drinks at the Cupping and Brew Bar, as well as meet with suppliers and brands from across the region. The exhibition offers prestigious workshops and training courses, with courses on roasting, sensory skills, and more. The event is also home to the world’s richest coffee championships, in which professionals take part in competitions including Dubai International Brewers Cup and the Dubai International Barista Championship, battling it out to win cash prizes. Sole DXB returns later this year for its sixth edition. The event is a celebration of street culture, encompassing everything from fashion and music to art and sport. It started out back in 2012, as a one-day event dedicated to sneakers, but has grown and grown since then, playing host to film premieres, art exhibitions, concerts, and more. Some of the world’s biggest brands have taken part in past events, including Adidas, Nike, Fred Perry, Stussy, and more. Attendees have also been able to see artists such as Skepta, Kano, and Mobb Deep take to the stage, as well as a line-up of Dubai-based bands and DJs. Dubai Muscle Show The region’s leading fitness and bodybuilding show Dubai Muscle Show is the Middle East’s leading international fitness and bodybuilding show. The exhibition is the best place for fitness enthusiasts to meet with some of the stars of the industry and get expert advice, as well as learn about the latest services and trends. There’ll also be competitions, giveaways, and live demonstrations of new products. The two-day event will also feature a line-up of competitions and tournaments in boxing, bodybuilding, mixed martial arts, and more.  There are more than 600 athletes expected to attend from all over the world, including Eddie Hall, the winner of last year’s World’s Strongest Man contest.

China Homelife Dubai The exhibition of Chinese businesses returns for its ninth edition China Homelife is the largest trade fair for Chinese businesses, and it’s set to return to Dubai this December. The event is held annually in cities around the world, including Johannesburg, Mexico, and Warsaw, and the Dubai event attracts visitors from across the Middle East.  This year’s event will focus on nine separate product segments: agriculture and food; building materials; consumer electronics; furniture; home appliances; textiles and garments; home products; gifts; and lights and lamps. Visitors can expect to find more than 50,000 of the latest products and innovations from more than 2500 suppliers. The event is an ideal opportunity for importers, traders and buyers to meet with manufacturers and source products directly from them.

Al Marmoom Ultramarathon Elite ultra runners from around the world have Dubai marked in their diaries from 11-15 December with the Al Marmoom Ultramarathon offering three gruelling distances to choose from: the world’s longest desert run at 270km, plus continuous 100km and 50km ultra runs. The three-day event is an international trade fair, and is a chance for professionals to meet with people from all sectors of the industry, including manufacturers, dealers, wholesalers, exporters, and more. All aspects of the industry will be represented, from writing paper and newsprint to paper mill technology and paper cutting machines.
